Why Men Matter in the Fight Against Period Poverty

Let’s be honest:
when most people hear “menstruation,” they don’t immediately think “men.”
But here’s the truth—real change is only possible when everyone is part of the conversation.
Period poverty and stigma won’t end if the topic stays just between women and girls. Fathers, brothers, partners, teachers, bosses, leaders—when men get involved, whole communities become safer, kinder, and stronger for everyone.
So, how can we open more eyes and hearts among our male population?
Start with the facts: Menstruation is a natural, healthy process. It’s not shameful, dirty, or “somebody else’s problem.” It’s human.
Share real stories: Ask the men in your life—did you ever learn what a period really is? Did anyone ever tell you why it matters for a girl’s future?
Invite, don’t blame: Most men didn’t choose to avoid this topic—they just never had the chance to understand. Let’s offer that chance, kindly.
Here’s how men can make a huge difference:
Support girls and women in their own families, schools, and teams
Challenge friends when they make period “jokes” or spread myths
Encourage workplaces, communities, and schools to talk honestly about menstrual health.
Help amplify campaigns and donate to projects like Cups of Change
When men stand up, stigma falls down. It becomes possible to build a world where no one drops out of school, misses work, or feels ashamed—no matter their gender.
To every father, brother, uncle, friend and leader: we need you in this movement. Ask a question, start a chat, share a post, or just listen. That’s how real change begins.
Thank you for standing with us—for all of us.
With hope,
Jess
